He joined GM in 1962, straight out of California’s Art Center design school, and was assigned to the advanced design studio at the Tech Center, where, among his first assignments, he assisted on a project that became the first Oldsmobile Toronado, one of the high watermarks of Bill Mitchell’s stint as GM design chief.

His wild, mid-engine SRV, shown at the 1970 Earls Court Motor Show in London, was a four-door, four-seater that stood just 41 inches tall.

2010 Cadillac CTS-V Challenge

 2010 Cadillac CTS V Challenge

Last month as part of GM’s “May the Best Car Win” marketing campaign, Bob Lutz challenged journalists find a sedan that could beat the CTS-V. To show that he was serious, Cadillac has annonuced a special V-Series Challenge event. Journalists have been asked to pick any stock production sedan they want and then to bring it to Monticello to see if they can beat the CTS-V’s time. We think that the CTS-V stands a good chance of coming out on top, unless of course you have a Prsche Panamera you want to lend us.

American muscle is no stranger to debate. That’s why we created a performance-luxury vehicle to shatter any outdated perceptions that Stateside engineering is made for straight lines but can’t corner. The massive stopping power of the 6-piston front, 4-piston rear Brembo brakes. A high-performance chassis developed on the world’s most challenging test tracks. And the Magnetic Ride Control suspension system, reacting in less than one millisecond in both Touring and Track modes. True, the CTS-V will do 0-60 in 3.9 seconds, but this isn’t about setting records in a straight line. It’s about setting the record straight. Introducing the all-new 556 hp 2009 Cadillac CTS-V.

GM Recalls Over 20,000 Cadillac CTS Models to Address Safety Issue with Glove Box

General Motors said on Monday it has issued a recall on 20,224 Cadillac CTS and CTS-V cars from the 2009-2010 model year to replace the glove box compartment. NHTSA's tests showed in the event of a frontal crash, if the front passenger is not wearing a seat belt, the risk of leg injury is higher than permitted under Federal law. It goes without saying that despite the NHTSA's findings, passengers should wear their seatbelts at all times.

Being a manufacturer recall, GM's dealers will replace the glove compartment assembly and, if necessary, in some vehicles modify the instrument panel structure, free of charge.

The Detroit automaker said the safety recall is expected to begin on or before October 20, 2010. For more information, owners of the affected CTS and CTS-V models may contact Cadillac directly at 1-866-982-2339.

"You just can't stop designing, you just can't stop being involved with cars," Cherry explains. "You start to do something like this, and it turns into a concept vehicle." He makes it sound like a winter garage project that got a little out of control, which at a basic level perhaps isn't a million miles from the truth.

At Vauxhall, he worked on the gullwing XVR, the brand's first-ever concept car, which was unveiled at the 1966 Geneva show. His wild, mid-engine SRV, shown at the 1970 Earls Court Motor Show in London, was a four-door, four-seater that stood just 41 inches tall.
The Equus, one of the star concepts of 1978, was a crisp, state-of-the-moment roadster that rivaled the best from Bertone and Pininfarina. "That's the most uncompromised design I've ever worked on," Cherry said at the time.
